Just recently, Apple released iOS 4, an operating system which is supposed to advance the third release of their OS for iPod Touch and iPhone–and I think they succeeded. Part of the new system is the ability to download the iBooks app where you can store and shop for ebooks. In the initial release, many ebooks are for free, thanks to Project Gutenberg. Of course, most of these ebooks are the classics (which is Great). Finally, I have a way to fulfill one of my Year 2010 Resolutions.

eBookshelf or iBookshelf? Oh, vowels.

Here are some of the books I downloaded, all for free:

Pride and Prejudice

The Art of War

The Prince

Complete Original Short Stories of Guy de Maupassant

Beyond Good and Evil

Great Expectations

Macbeth

The Works of Edgar Allan Poe

The Confessions

The Gift of the Magi

Les Misérables

The Republic

Selected Essays of Karl Marx

A History of the Japanese People

Noli me Tangere (and yes, I also have El Filibusterismo, haha)

So far so good. Well, my only complaint is about my iPod Touch’s obtuse performance when I open iBooks or any eBook at that. I can safely blame this to my device’s aged processor and RAM. iPhone 4, anyone? I am looking forward for many (modern) titles soon. And I’m also looking forward for a prosperous profession that could give me the money to replace my current ebook reader. :)

A Jollibee mascot was there, entertaining the kids the juvenile way. I stopped and stared at the happy bee and saw myself joining the kids’ crowd. I smiled and saw him smiling back at me. Well, he can’t frown anyway. But the jiffy moment I sang and dance in my mind made me realize how old I am now that prevented me to actualize those action thoughts. I’m 20, and I think I’m old.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/treetop_apple_juice/

Just recently, I hid my birth year from those who’ll visit my Facebook profile. Well, that’s one of the coping mechanisms I do so I’ll disregard my age. Yes, I think I’m acting as weird as a 20 year old, 20 kilo gram bulimic woman who thinks she’s overweight. I’m a 20 year old man and I’m just nearing the peak of my active lifestyle and occupation–many years to be productive (and be reproductive at that). But something in me tells my young mind that I’m indeed still a kid whose mature beliefs tend to be pretentious. I always boast my so called maturity to my closest friends as if it’s the primary weapon of my ego. Apparently, I’m having difficulties joining the social battlefield. The new year is here and it’s the primetime for reinvention. I got my old self and he’ll be my buddy for a sci-fi like formulation of the new me. Here’s my list:

Save. I can remember several instances of my 2009 life asking my friends if they have extra bucks. For a relatively expensive lifestyle I am coerced to undergo, saving is a need.

Monitor Expenses. I tend to overspend. Yes, the ADHD-Financial version type.

Workout. I am phat. I need to lose all the earthly food I ate and replace them with an earthly, lusty body. Uhuh.

Get a gym membership. Still optional, but I’m eying the scary, 10 peso per day gym somewhere near. Yes, I’m that desperate.

Blog more often. Blakenwayt told me that it’s weird that I became a passive blogger when I acquired my dot com. Logically, I should be an enthusiastic one since I already have a domain of my own. Guess what, I will be one of a heck in 2010.

Join blog contests. I missed a lot of contests wherein I am eligible to join. Lots of gadgets were at stake. Oh, I could have had the chance to win a poseur iPhone.

My Blog Visits Stats: Back on Track

Read books. I don’t label myself as a bookworm but I often make fatuous relationship with books. I’ll read more books and will read everything from cover to cover, ah promise.

Read the Classics. They are the best of their time and they don’t fail to awe readers of the destructive age. This is a project of mine I never get to fulfill. I’ll try my best to understand you, A Tale of Two Cities, Unabridged Version.

Sleep more. In overnight sessions, I can be the last man standing–the last man awake. This is the ability I have endured despite the frequent sermons of my mom regarding the importance of sleep. I’ll listen to my mom this time.

Keep my room clean. It’s one dirty room for a naughty boy. I’ll keep it clean but I’ll continue to be a naughty one. Haha.

Watch more movies. I’m not a movie enthusiast but watching movies is a great way to refill knowledge to my bulletproof head.

Minimize watching non-sense ones. Enough said.

Don’t procrastinate. I’ll do it the Walmart way: Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

Meet deadlines. I shall stop asking for a deadlier deadline.

Love and Live Life. Free hugs and kisses for everyone starting January 1.

So these are the things I have listed from the top of my head with the help of my 2010 planner. There will be 365 blank pages I am ready to fill up with all the colors of life (this sounded like cheese). I hope I’ll get everything right by this time. Well, as usual, I can’t promise I’ll live up with the ideal standards I set for myself but I’ll swim the sea without the fear of being drowned, or without the fear of being eaten by an unidentified aquatic monster. The homey shore is there. I can see it from afar.

And oh, last thing.

Sing and dance with Jollibee. For a moment, I will be a child again. Happy new year, friends!

Well, I think it’s even an understatement. I rarely blog every day, or even every week–I think I blog only twice or thrice a month. And this is a justifiable excuse because of the different justifiable forces that prevent me to do so. If something justifiable inhibited you to do something, then the direct causes of inhibition would also be as justifiable. This is the kind of logic I sustain in my values stream that kept me breathing. But I guess this won’t work in the crazily fast-paced lifestyle of the 21st century.

My boss during my first internship tells me this before an actual work: I trust you, you know what to do. Beyond that bragging smile I pose to exhibit a sugar-free confidence, I was actually telling myself: WTF. What are those things I know? The society is becoming less of a rational organization because contemporary norms standardize trivial knowledge–making it automatic. Okay, I actually didn’t get what I just said. Haha. The point is this, people become automatic due to their struggle for rationality. This is bit of an irony but it’s something I can observe–with myself at least. I am rational but my generated rationalities become an involuntary pool of knowledge, ready to spill anytime it needs to. This kind of philosophical inquiry might piss you off because you can’t understand the ultimate point of this. My Philosophy professor told us before: Philosophers and social scientists are the worst writers. Richard Rorty and Ludwig Wittgenstein would the best examples to prove such point. And I’m a bad writer when I’m writing about philosophy–or some sort of it. Actually, this blog entry is supposed to tackle about my new planner. As you can see, the original plan isn’t fulfilled. Haha.

Wish against the heavens

To compensate for my bad writing style amidst philosophical inquiry, I will make an effort to link what I said in the previous paragraphs and buying (or obtaining, since I didn’t buy mine) a planner. For a twenty year old kid like me, it is expected that I will act in the most ideal forms of maturity. I have concrete sets of values which were made through a complex mixture of experiences and rationalities. But some point in my life as a mature person, I realized that I have to reformulate those sets of values to allow more room for rationality. A nice planner/journal helps me to do so. I just scanned over my three journals (for the last three years) and I saw myself as someone who knows everything and someone who won’t jerk a tear for something I don’t know. I want to strive to do something even if something justifiable inhibits me to do so. I want to grow. Wish me luck. Yes, even a excessively rational person like me believes in luck. Gotta start planning now. :)

Well, that’s a need I refuse to fulfill simply because I’m not in the mood–and my mind and body haven’t achieved a state of enlightenment just yet. But for now, I’m a happy bum. Actually, I’m waiting for my 2010 planner because it will start a spark of gusto and will kick my ass towards my unused study desk. I thought Red Moleskine’s coming to me, but I changed my mind–I’ll settle for the mass-adored Starbucks Planner. Four stickers before possession; not bad. Okay, I did break my words about this thing. But who cares?

Maxwell & Hayden

I think I can get mine by Monday. And this means I’ll start working by that day–ah promise. For the mean time, I use my laptop and smarty pants phone to lay everything on the table. Things-to-do lists, appointments, meetings, assignments–yes, I’m pretending to be busy like this. I like my phone and its complementary, partner-in-crime PC suite very much. They’re actually easier to use than a planner. Just bring it out from your pocket, press the calendar key and start typing your business stress. Unlike an old good planner which is a brat. You have to open your bag, look for the day, bring out your pen and scribble like a corporate cat. In my case, I schedule/note everything when I’m in school and synchronize the information to my laptop at home so I can see an overview of how I’ll be murdered for a week or for a month. But well, handwriting is priceless. Planners are also identifying themselves as journals. This kind of identity crisis will cater to your hardcore business mindset and contemplative private life.

Nokia PC Suite

So I’m going for both: a journal-slash-planner and an electronic version of such. I actually synchronize both so they’ll tell me consistent blabbers of busy life. The personal entries would remain on my journal though–my laptop won’t care about my emotional ink anyway. With two entities constantly reminding me of what to do, I hope I’ll never miss a date next year. I’ll be romantic to you, 2010.

Freak. We had our first PR specialist interviewee a while ago. And she’s a freak. Man, she’s restless! A professor, a PR specialist, a corporate consultant (I can’t coin the proper term), an overseas worker (Nah, not the typical OFW–foreign companies hire and hunt her). With this, I can say that she is multitalented too. It is timely that the concept of freakness should have a positive connotation.

Groups. When you are a communication major, your professors will train you to deal with and tolerate other people. I am a group-person and I love doing THE interpersonal communication. Communication is part of survival. Communication can be violent, almost parallel to a predator-prey relationship. Predators usually talk too much. Preys usually don’t talk, they just run. The lesson? Don’t be predator or a prey; don’t be a violent communicator.

Netbooks. I envy people who own a netbook. My laptop becomes heavier as netbooks and notebooks become lighter. Change is constant because of relativism. Ack, my shoulders hurt. I need my netbook now. :(

Amidst the cold morning, a text message woke me up. Actually, Vector (my mobile phone’s name) wakes me up whenever he receives a text message but I go back to sleep when I realize that those messages are sent in a group (More popularly known as a “Group Message”). But when I saw one coming from Marvin, I am back to the world of the awake. Marvin is not fond of sending GMs so I know it’s a personalized one. He greeted me Good Morning and said that he is bound for Lawton to fetch Lanie. Lanie is going to Marvin’s house because she is invited to the birthday celebration of Marvin’s father. We had a little conversation until all of a sudden, I was already texting Lanie. Of course, she teases me about Marvin. Oh yeah, I am (We are) already immune. LOL.

Live! Journal

A couple of minutes later, I got myself online and fixed my Friendster profile and LJ account. Wee, I love both of them. For my Friendster profile, I used an pre-made layout then just edited it so the color theme would be dark green and olive green. Halovit! For my LJ, it seems to be pretty simple but I guess complexity is not so me. Although I concede I am a little sophisticated at some times :P.

Stroll at the Mall

I, my sister and my mother decided to go to the Festival Supermall. My sister would be meeting her classmates and my mother would have her bag repaired at Marithé et François Girbaud. And I? I just want myself out our house. I and my mother first went to the department store to buy a gift for Ivan. My mother decided to buy a toy robot for him since it’s his favorite toy. Then off we went to some bag and fashion stores. My sister also came by after while. I hate mall strolling with girls, Oh well. But I am a little happy when my mom bought me a top from Solo. Haha. But geez, its size is XS! I decided to return it for a S size on Monday. Tsk. Anyway, we ate at Chowking for some hot stuff then we then went to have buy some groceries.

That Timepiece!
