Ciara’s reaction to the infamous Takipsilim made me want to post my reactions too. There were(are) a lot of reactions re:Takipsilim, most of them were really negative. Some of the reactors(?) are obvious poseurs and some of them think highly of themselves a la elitista not welcoming any kind of “kajologan” (This might be a little unfair–just as unfair as some critics have reacted). I pity those Filipino commentors who virtually joined with foreigners bash the perceived Filipino production and even the Filipinos and Filipino race in general (shame) on foreign websites. They didn’t understand that media, just like any money-making industry, is a free market (laissez-faire–if they want the more sophisticated term) that caters to the needs and wants of people (ABS-CBN assumed that this is a want. Apparently, it seemed that it is not. But the negative reactions made it more appealing–I’ll call it backfiring. Haha). Even if these protesters rally outside, file a complaint, file an appeal and simply bash the producers at that, they won’t succeed simply because they don’t have the right to do so. They have the right to rant but they don’t have the right to meddle in the official business transaction between the station and the producers. Well okay, they may meddle in the transaction (if they are really that desperate)–but what’s their legitimate and mature rationale? They don’t want it because Rayver Cruz is fugly? They don’t want it because we are a culture of aswangs and not of vampires? If they are against it, then they may opt not to watch it (If I know, they would watch it anyway). Dude, you own the remote.

About Filipino creativity, I believe that creativity is not limited to producing new concepts. It also means giving a new flavor to an already-established concept. That’s how knowledge works, one has to start, the others would bank onto it and the resulting knowledge would be then again be banked onto by others (“Assembly Bonus Effect” as we call it in group communication). But then again, having an original idea would always be better. Ciara has said, in line with this, that the production may become an expression of unique Filipino art when it comes to directing movies and TV shows. The challenge to these artists and actors is the proper contextualization the story, the script (the script!), the show atmosphere and even the acting in the local television.

I’m neither a supporter nor a detractor of Takipislim (if it’s real). I’m just objective about the issue. Cheers. :)

Mas ok pa rin ang Takipsilip ko. HahAHA.

If one don’t like the idea of the franchise, they have the freedom not to watch. That’s so simple.

    Hmmph.

aLps: haha, tama naman diba? :D

To: Avid Gaga-over-book/Robert Pattinson Twilight fans

ABS would not in a million years spend a fortune over rights of a dud franchise (oh yes, they have rights over it alright). You made it what it is. Deal with the wave of every kind of imitation every nation would/could think of.

And guess what? As viewers, you can actually help shut down the program (after the contract, at least) How? By not actually fussing about it. :)

    Fr: Mita

    Happy new year! :D

aLps: exactly Mita! But they have the urge to barrage and shout. I do understand them though. Haha.

thats for a dud franchise (retraction? hahaha)

This reminded me of an old Japanese saying,

“When you talk about a person, his shadow appears.”

Same is true with Twilight and every other fad that comes in. I’m not surprised at all with this.

The fans must accept that they’re not just the only people in this world. After all, fans are there because they same the share passion and interests. They can’t meddle in the business of the industry gatekeepers.

However, they can alter the outcome of a project by either showing their utmost support or simply just let it fly off the handle. Simple as that. Quo vadis?

aLps: haha, but they rally outside.

I’m also a fan. I’ve been a fanboy since I was in third year high so I know how a fan feels. Yeah, it feels really bad when something unfavorable happens to your object of admiration. But again, we can’t meddle in the business of the big players, not unless you’re one of them. All a layman can do to alter the outcome is to vehemently express himself, whether it’ll bear fruit or not.

Same thing happened to Zaido. Fans of the original Shaider (including me) were appalled, shocked, and angered by how GMA-7 botched this so-called “series installment”. It was likened to blasphemy and sacrilege. Amid the extensive and intensive marketing done by GMA-7 to make this show appealing to the public, they’ve decided not to do another tokusatsu remake again because of the public’s strong opposition. It may be a winner in the ratings game since most of its viewers are ignorant of tokusatsus, it received heavy blows from the intelligent viewers who fearlessly and tirelessly blasted the network that make “baboy” our idol. An upcoming remake for another tokusatsu has been shelved.

I have nothing against GMA-7 nor I support ABS-CBN. I don’t want to get involved in the silliest war the world has ever seen after the Iraq War, that is the network wars. I’m a media practitioner, and not a consumer.

Back to the topic. That’s the reality of this media-ruled world. Talks of the town will surely spark the flame for the spread of fads and no one can stop the media gatekeepers to keep on looking for ways to rehash preconceived ideas and present them in a strikingly new manner though it’s just like food that is reheated.

So what’s the fuss? Happy New Year everyone!

My name’s Fuji, and that’s my opinion.

aLps: Well said, fuji :) I won’t comment back as comprehensive as yours. I’ll just let the readers have their own take about it (your comment). :D

that’s right, if you don’t like the idea, don’t fuss about it, moreover, don’t waste you’re time watching it.

these kind of stuff are kind of business that TV networks are dealing with, and audiences have every freedom in the world not to watch any programs that they think as a “trash”.

aLps: but they are not satisfied by mere passive-protest. And I respect that kind of outrage.

you’re right. we own our remotes; we can always decide what we want to watch (see the alliteration?). i don’t really get the point of ranting about how takipsilim would suck when brought to local tv or how this Raiver wouldnt qualify for a Edward.

anyway, i’ll better start reading eclipse. lol.

aLps: Those critics, tsk. Enjoy reading!
